On the home soil of 23 year old unbeaten WBO Asia Pacific Minimumweight Champion Thi Thu Nhi Nguyen (4-0, 1 KO), former World Champion Ayaka Miyao (23-8-2, 6 KOs) looks to add another strap to her collection.
Nguyen was promoted to mandatory challenger by the WBO but that title remained vacant following Miyao’s Split Draw to Etsuko Tada in January. There was a rematch to have occurred but Tada declined. Now it poses an opportunity for Miyao to challenge again for the belt but with a younger warrior.
This will the second match of Miyao’s career outside of Japan, the previous bout was her challenge for the vacant WBC Light Flyweight championship in 2007.
In 2012, Miyao captured a world championship by dethroning WBA Atomweight champion Mari Ando and successfully defended it five times before attempting to unify with WBO Champion Momo Kosecki in 2015.
On to the present… Miyao is confident that her experience will prevail.
The Championship Bout is scheduled for Sunday, September 27 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
